The Broken Chair Band debuted their first cd 'You Can't Judge a Heart by Its Cover' in 2002 when Todd and Melinda began writing together in 2001. Although each had written poetry and songs individually for over 30 years, their first cd was a collaborative effort. All songs are originals, written and composed by both Todd and Melinda. Their first cd was written, recorded and produced by the duo.
Todd and Melinda are members of the Western Music Association, dedicated to preserving the history and legacy of the American Cowboy. The Broken Chair Band performs their 'Americowboyfolkgrass' for a variety of audiences; from elementary schools during rodeo week, to churches, benefit concerts, rodeo week promotions, private events such as weddings and reunions, family festivals and birthdays.
Todd has cowboyed the deserts and mountains of Arizona, to the plains of Texas. In high school, Todd played bass in the high school jazz band. After graduation, he went north into the Blue River Valley to cowboy in a small but rich ranching community. It was here that Todd's songwriting began . He continues to write that which is near and dear to his heart. Who says cowboys aren't sensitive?!
Melinda was raised in a musical family in heart of cow country, Kansas. Melinda started taking lessons in classical piano in grade school, and by junior high had added coronet and acoustic guitar to her repertoire. By high school, french horn was added, and Melinda's musical styles and participation broadened from orchestra, symphonic band to marching band. In college, Melinda performed in brass ensembles, children's theatre, and jammed with friends in local bands. But falling in love with the acoustic guitar is when Melinda started writing songs.
